My Journey

After completing my Clinical Psychology training, I started my practice attached to a Psychiatrist and was based in a couple of Hospitals in the Psyciatric Ward. My role involved providing assessment of Mental Health for adults, adolescents and children.

While in India, I also worked with a Non-Governmental Organization to provide rehabilitation & treatment counseling for Drug related issues. I was actively involved with Family Planning Association of India in creating Aids & Drug Awareness programs in school & colleges.

After moving to Oman, Middle East in 1994 to join my husband who was already settled there, I started work with Human Resources Organization. I provided Vocational Guidance Counseling and specialized as a Recuritment Officer through psychometric screening of candidates to gauge their true abilities & aptitude for placement. With the organization I was provided an opportunity to independently design the screening & selection project of Air Traffic Control trainees for the Director General of Civil Aviation & Meteorology, Sultanate of Oman. Selection comprised of selecting 60 best candidates from 700 applicants. My job also involved conducting a job description survey at the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry for over 200 positions. I worked for the Ministry of Interior, Oman to test their staff members & provide training decisions related to their career progression.

Although the Human resources work was exciting, it involved working long hours which was not suitable with young children. I then moved into part time work to accomodate the needs of my family. I started working in a Speacialized Learning Centre working with children and young adults who had been diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder & other developmental issues. My role involved diagnosis with clinical assessment & designing tailormade vocational programmes based on child abilities & needs. As the children grew older I attached my services to a Local School & worked as a School Psychologist providing counseling services in an academic set up & dealing with all types of school problems as well as conducting Personality Development Workshops for adolescents focusing on development of skills related to self-confidence, resisting peer pressure, strengthening family relationships. I conducted Workshops for teachers on Behavioral Problems commonly encountered in a school setups, Psychoeducation around Learning Disabilities for teachers.

I moved with my family in 2001 to New Zealand. I started working with a Non-Governmental Agency ofering services to adults and children diagnosed with Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I then moved to work with the District Health Board in the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. My role involved providing psychological Assessment Treatment/ Intervention that includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Play therapy, Behavior Intervention Strategies for children & young adults as well as to family and schools for managing the behavioral difficulties. Psycho education to families, schools and support people around managing children and adolescents diagnosed with Psychological difficulties e.g. Anxiety, Depression etc I also provided cognitive assessments for Intellectual Disability and identifying specific learning difficulties for children and young persons.

I started developing my Private Practice in 2008 and slowly built it up. As I started my private practice, I developed my skills in the area of neuropsychology. I have completed a number of neuropsychological assessments and am registered as a Clinical Neuropsychologist with the New Zealand Psychologist Board. I am currently working full time as a Private Psychologist. I offer a variety of services. Details can be accessed by viewing my services page.
